Ubuntu 12.04 has come up with a new way to display some common Unity Desktop keyboard shortcuts.
If you hold 'super' key for 2 seconds, you can see a Lens coming up displaying Ubuntu Desktop Keyboard shortcut keys. The image below shows the Shortcut Lens.

I upgraded Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04. I have seen videos of the keyboard shortcut keys but holding down the Super key only puts numbers on the icons on the bar

ReplyDeleteThere might be some issue with upgrade. I am not sure about the problem.
DeleteI have installed fresh Ubuntu 12.04 and holding super key does shows the shortcut lens
hmm it put numbers on the application in the unity tool-bar ... So pressing that number along with the super key opens that application .if it is already open then application is maximized.
DeleteIf your screen resolution is too low it won't be shown. It doesn't show on my netbook, but shows fine on my laptop and desktop.
DeleteMaybe you started your session in 2D mode which disable Compiz effects, that might be the reason ?
ReplyDeleteAs well, mine doesn't do this, and I don't know how to fix it. If you have ideas pls post.

Thanks for the information.
DeleteWhat a great article. I have share this article to my friends. Its a very nice to share. Thanks for share this blog share.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late reply. For those who press the 'super' key and see numbers on the icons: effectively, this is because the 2D mode is disabled. However, by pressing the 'super' key and a given number at the same time you have a direct access to the corresponding item (ex. 'super'+1 will open the unity dash home).
ReplyDeleteThanks for post this Article such great article...
ReplyDeleteThis USED to work, but a recent "update" removed it, as well as the ability to put a window on the left or right side of the screen by dragging it there, or maximizing it by dragging to the top. Once again, Canonical has screwed us over.
ReplyDelete"Canonical screwed us over" That is hilarious! You are using a free distro that is smaller, faster, and better than most commercial offerings, and say you are screwed over! What a guy!
ReplyDeletethank you what is the shortcut to go to desktop directly as windows+d in windows

ReplyDeleteit is very useful thanks a lot.. :)
ReplyDeleteNice clean/neat Blog. I have a distribution called Ultimate edition 3.6 and I need keyboard shortcuts cause there was a glitch in where windows edges are not grab able. This is my only complaint I like the rest in fact I wish I could hire him to make me a custom version I would pay something reasonable.
ReplyDeleteIn 12.04, I was able to see the overlay of the keyboard shortcuts on my desktop by holding the super key, but that seems to be gone in 14.04. I'm missing that!
